Māku Anō e Hanga Tōku Nei Whare: Determining our Future

Marae Accommodation

No need for a tent if you sleep marae-style! Marae-style accommodation is a great way to meet people and is very much like a big sleepover or slumber party. Those who choose marae-style sleep in a large air-conditioned room on a mattress and pillow that is provided. For international guests travelling from overseas, blankets and towels will also be provided. For everyone else, (based in Aotearoa) you will need to bring your own blankets and towels. Marae-style accommodation includes all meals at the Te Wānanga o Raukawa.

An example of marae-style accomodation

Marae Power Sockets or Plugs

New Zealand uses different power plugs to the rest of the world. New Zealand power outlets accept power plugs with 3 flat pins and looks something like this:

If you are travelling to New Zealand and plan to bring your own electrical appliance such as a hair dryer, shaver etc, you may need to buy an adapter like the one below.

Marae Parking

On-site parking is available, please follow campus signs.

Marae Toilets and Showers

Separate showers and toilets for men and ladies (including unisex disabled) are available.

Marae Laundry

Laundrette facilities are available on campus for a small fee: $2.00 per wash and $2.00 per dry cycle. It is strongly recommended that you monitor your laundry and remove it as soon as possible when the wash or dry cycle is complete.

"What should I wear?"

We expect warm, sunny weather during the Forum. However, you should also bring some warm clothes - just in case. During the Forum, casual attire is acceptable. Please note that footwear must not be worn in any of the meeting spaces - places to leave footwear are available outside each building. You may wear slippers inside as long as these are not worn outdoors also. As noted above we do ask that formal attire is worn for the Forum Dinner.

Our Sun, Beautiful but Fierce

If you have a favourite sun block, bring it. The Sun's harmful UV rays are much stronger & severe here 'down under'. Sun block will be available for use at the Forum & we recommend you apply daily & regularly.
