AGREEMENT

The Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa: Te Rau Herenga o Aotearoa and Te Rōpū Whakahau are committed to the recognition and implementation of the Treaty of Waitangi in all of their activities.

This document acknowledges a formal partnership between these two organisations while recognising their independent status. The agreement provides for mutual support in the pursuit of bicultural development of librarianship in Aotearoa New Zealand. This support takes the following forms:

LIANZA agrees to:

make provision for two Te Rōpū Whakahau representatives, one of whom is the chairperson, to become part of the LIANZA Council. The Te Rōpū Whakahau Chairman has the status of officer.
allocate resources to Te Rōpū Whakahau to support Māori and bicultural initiatives.
Te Rōpū Whakahau agrees to:

provide two representatives to LIANZA Council.
provide guidance to the LIANZA Council relating to bicultural development and a Māori perspective on the Association’s general business.
This agreement is reached on the understanding that the conditions will be ratified annually.
